Ultima Six Manager v1.2 (C) 1997 JP Morris / IT-HE Software
=======================

New in 1.2
----------

* Changed the emergency backup datafiles.
In 1.1, these had a smiley face in Sutekh's castle and the Lyceum was full
of water. The program is the same.

New in 1.1
----------

* updated .cfg format.. now has comments and 'Restore' switch.
  See u6mgr.cfg for more info

* Now it copies the holy trinity (MAP,CHUNKS,BOOK.DAT) back into the game
that it came from, so they are not overwritten (For budding U6 developers!)

* Now ignores directories less than 8 chars long. (Used to crash u6)
Warnings are displayed if this happens.

What is U6mgr??
===============

As I am sure you are aware, it is not possible for you to have two games
of ultima 6 running simultaneously.

This is because the current game is spread among many files in the SAVEGAME
directory.

..but wouldn't it be nice if you could have several games at once?

That is the purpose of U6MGR.

HINT: READ THE WARNINGS LOWER DOWN!!!

What does it do?
----------------

U6MGR presents a menu of all your savegames. It allows you to choose a current
game, create a new game or delete an existing game.

In addition, it allows these games to have modified maps, chunks or text
messages without it interfering with the other games. That is new!

To use the program, enter your Ultima 6 directory and run U6MGR

Although you can still run Ultima 6 in the usual way, it would probably be
better to start it using U6MGR.

First, the warnings and disclaimers..
-------------------------------------

1.	This program comes with no warranty at all, of any kind.
I can only guarantee that it works for me.
All trademarks mentioned belong to those who own them.

2.	You must not rename the executable program U6MGR, as this will cause
	errors.

3.	You MUST NOT compress Ultima 6 with pklite, lzexe or any similar
programs. Doing this will damage the game. The original programs
are copied into a directory called BACKUP in case this ever happens...

4.	All savegames should be kept in directories EIGHT characters long.
The program will grumble at you if this is not so.

You should rename the directory and pad the name with underlines or
	something.  eg. 'PARTY1' -> 'PARTY1__'.

Playing Ultima 6 Games
----------------------

This is dead simple. Just run U6MGR, and a menu will appear.
Use the arrow keys to select the game you want, and press ENTER.

Next time you run U6MGR, the last game you played should be highlighted.

Creating New Ultima 6 Games
---------------------------

When you want to create a new game, you should use U6MGR to do this.
Pressing the INS key on the menu will do this.

You will be asked two simple questions:

	1.	Where to store the party

This is the directory that the new game will be stored in.
It can be up to 8 letters long and must be unique.

	2.	Please describe your party

This is optional, it is a brief description of your party
that will appear on the U6MGR menu.

If you omit this, the description will be set to 'no name'.

The description is stored in a file called 'GAMENAME.INF' in
the directory named in step 1.

If you wish to change the description later, edit this file
using EDIT, NOTEPAD or any other text editor.

Next, the install program will run. Choose the appropriate settings for your
system, and make sure you CREATE A NEW CHARACTER.

Next, the ultima 6 menu will be run. You must select CREATE CHARACTER, and
the process will be the same as normal from here onwards.

Deleting a party
----------------

To remove a party that you no longer want, just highlight it on the U6MGR menu
and press the DEL key.

Obviously, it would be a pity if you accidentally deleted the wrong party, so
a protection system is built in.

In order to delete a party, you must simply enter the word 'MURDER' in capital
letters. If you make a mistake, you will go back to the menu and nothing will
happen.

If you enter the word correctly, there will be a short pause while the
files are removed, then U6MGR will restart itself.

If bad things happen....
------------------------

I have tried to make this program as stable as possible, but it is difficult
to be sure, as I have recently changed operating system kernel and get
intermittent problems.

The first time the program is installed, it creates a directory called BACKUP
and copies the original, unmodified files into this.

It should also create a DIAGNOSE.U6M file. If you have serious, consistent
problems with U6manager, please email this to me. You should also find a file
called 'U6.1', please send me this as well!!

You can restore U6 to its original state at any time by copying the files in
the BACKUP directory back into your Ultima 6 directory.
