A list of useful objects (for budding U6 developers)
====================================================

		version 1.28
		------------

What's new:

V 1.28	Added stocks, drawbridge winch, updated email address.
	Requested by Chris Home

V 1.27 Added Cookfire, OBED can search for TAGS (press '?')

V 1.26 Added Prison Bars to the list.
	Added the portcullis. Silly me.
	Added Stone Table, Altar
Revised carpets as Ian's numbers bear no resemblance to reality at all
Stone lion and cutting table are the right numbers now

V 1.25	Added Horizontal bookcase to the list.
Thanks to Weiss for spotting that one.

V 1.20	How to make a portcullis

V 1.10	Added the red steps to the list.
Added ladders, cupboards and other things.
Fixed an irritating bug in the object editor.

Doors and things
================

Your first port of call should be the list.txt file supplied in the U6
developer's kit (u6dev11).

This gives the numbers for the first frame of all the objects.
However, this is often useless for some objects which are several tiles large.
This includes doors and similar items.

You can find the next frame by adding 1024 to the base number of the object.
Similarly, objnum+2048 will be the second frame.

Making a Portcullis
===================

I never tried this one until Bradley Lawrence asked me how it was done.
I tried it out and found that there is a trick to it. Here it is:

First summon your lever, this will be used to open/shut the portcullis.
Give it a unique QUALITY number.

Next, summon the portcullis. The QUALITY does not matter!

Finally, summon a doorway. Make sure the QUALITY of the doorway is the same
as the lever.

Because it is the doorway that is controlled by the QUALITY, not the portcullis
as you would expect, you can also use this to make other things appear in the
doorway, like the electric fields found in JAMLID'S REVENGE.

Eggs
====

Eggs are used to spawn monsters and random things.
Eggs are not fully understood at present and may be hard to get going.

Basically, you place an egg in the desired spot, and place ON TOP OF IT, an
example of the item which you want the egg to grow.

Now you must go into the appropriate ObjBlk file using OBED, the object editor.
First, find the egg. This is easier if you get IOLO to dump 20 spiked helms
or something in the square to the left of the egg.

You must now set the egg's parameters.
Try these:

Flags: 2
Quantity:	64
Quality:	1

You must NOT TOUCH the 'unknown' parameters for the egg as they are its
coordinates on the map.

Now go into the next object (the one you want to grow there) and set the
following settings:

Flags: 8
unknown_h:	53 These are not the map coordinates of the
unknown_d:	3 object if it has an egg.
unknown_d2:	ffac If there was no egg, they would be.
Quantity:	1
Quality:	9

If the egg has the wrong parameters, it will either fail to operate, or
possibly cause an error in the game. If this happens, you must use the object
editor to change the egg into something else, or adjust it's parameters and
try again.

You might want to try copying the parameters (except the coordinates of the egg)
from an existing egg-object pair, such as the Guard eggs found in most towns.
If you find an unneeded egg, you can move it to coordinates of your own.
You could take the coords from a spiked helm Iolo drops on the ground, for
instance.

If anyone knows how the unknown bytes work or has a foolproof way of creating
Eggs, please, please let me know!

The List
========

For our convinience, we created a list of objects that were used frequently
but only on the second or third frame.

Now I've typed it up and here it is!

Useful Object Numbers
=====================

Object Direction Number

Doors
-----

Brick doorway V 3373

Hut Doorway H 9517

Oak Door H 1321
Windowed Door H 1322
Cedar Door H 1323
Steel Door H 1324
Secret Door H 334

Place the doorway first, and then put the door on top.

Drawbridge
----------

Raised Top Left 6413
Raised Middle 7437
Raised Top Right 8461

Lowered Middle Left 3341
Lowered Middle Centre 4365
Lowered Middle Right 5389

Lowered Bottom Left 269
Lowered Bottom Middle 1293
Lowered Bottom Right 2317

Crank 288
Chain 293

For the drawbridge to work, there the parts must be given a unique Quality.
You must create a drawbridge with this Quality as well.

You should place only the RAISED parts of the drawbridge.
When you lower it, the bridge should automatically stretch to the next shore.
The drawbridge can be up to about 4 objblks long (this is many miles!!).
It may look for a flat shoreline to lower onto.. if so, it could stretch
over land for many miles and even go through people's houses until it finds
one or stretches too far.

Corner post 6426

To create a cupboard with something in it, use this technique:

1. Create a backpack in the spot where you want the cupboard.
2. Put the items in the backpack
3. Use OBED to find the backpack (backpacks are rare) and change it's type
number into the numeber for your cupboard or desk.

Now you should have a cupboard with something inside it!
